A New Plastic Packaging Tax is Being Rolled Out
The government has provided more insight on the upcoming new plastic packaging tax, which will affect UK producers plastic packaging, importers of plastic packaging, business customers of producers, and consumers in the UK.
The tax will apply to plastic packaging containing less than 30% recycled plastic produced in or imported into the UK, and is being introduced in a bid to encourage more sustainable forms of packaging.
The tax […] will stimulate increased levels of recycling and collection of plastic waste, diverting it away from landfill or incineration,” claimed the government in a press release.
The new tax has been introduced after a consultation on the design and implementation, with the government promising to publish a summary of responses in the future.
The new tax is planned to take effect from April 2022. More information can be found on the government’s website.
