Plastic Needs to be Reduced “Carefully” in Packaging

More and more retailers – including ASOS and Tesco – have publicly committed to reducing plastic in packaging, but according to WRAP’s latest Retail Survey, reduction must be done “carefully”.

WRAP works with businesses, individuals and communities to reduce waste and develop sustainable products, along with publishing guidance on using resources responsibly.

The latest Retail Survey saw WRAP focus on supermarkets in the UK, with just under sixty supermarkets and 2,000 food products analysed.

According to WRAP, many of the UK’s major brands have “made progress implementing best-practice guidance”.

“Public concern has grown over plastic packaging since our last survey, particularly around fresh produce, and we have updated our guide to address single use, problematic plastics in this category,” said WRAP director Peter Maddox.
