Print Industry Has Higher Representation of Women,
Says BPIF

The print sector has a higher representation of women than is average for UK manufacturing, according to new figures published by the British Printing Industries Federation (BPIF).

According to BPIF, the United Kingdom’s print industry has a gender split of 69% men and 31% women – compared to an average of 75% men and 25% women for manufacturing as a whole.

However, despite ranking higher than other manufacturing industries, the print industry’s gender representation still showed a way to go when compared to general UK figures, with UK workers measuring at 53% men and 47% women overall.

According to BPIF’s report, women are most strongly represented in non-production print roles, with 37% being women compared to 28% of production workers.

BPIF marketing director Amy Hutchinson commented, “y showing the position we are in now it gives the industry clarity and allows companies to view these stats and then do something to address the issue, if there is one within their company.

“This very much varies from company to company and from department to department through the industry, but on average we certainly see more male employees than female currently.

“The BPIF supports equal gender opportunities and through their management training are encouraging more women to progress to senior roles within the industry.”
