UK’s Design Industry Continues to Grow

Despite fears around the effect of Brexit on the economy, the UK’s design industry continues to grow, with one out of every six people working in London employed in the creative industries.

London now possesses the biggest creative economy of any major city in the world.

“Creativity is talent-led and international. It thrives in a majority environment with like-minded people,” commented Ben Evans, co-founder of the London Design Festival, to Forbes. “People from around the world are drawn to London because of its reputation. It’s not just about making things, but where the ideas are.

“The transformation of London into an idea-oriented, creative-driven, tech-based economy is remarkable.”

However, the growth of the UK’s design industry is not limited to London.

January figures from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) showed that the creative industries contribute £8.8mllion to the UK economy every hour – £76.9billion annually.

“Today even small towns have a creative industry officer,” says Evans.
