WHO: “No Evidence” Food Packaging Spreads Covid-19
The World Health Organisation (WHO) has reassured the public that it has seen no evidence that Covid-19 can be spread by food or food packaging.
After two cities in China said they found traces of Covid-19 in imported chicken wings from Brazil, fears have grown that contaminated food shipments could cause another spread of the virus.
But according to the WHO, there is no reason to fear this outcome.
“There is no evidence that food or the food chain is participating in transmission of this virus. And people should feel comfortable and safe,” said WHO’s head of emergencies programme Mike Ryan, at a briefing in Geneva.
Meanwhile, WHO epidemiologist Maria Van Kerkhove added that China had tested hundreds of thousands of packages and found “less than 10” positive for Covid-19.
Recent research by Biomaster and James Cropper found that silver-based antimicrobial coatings may be effective in defending against Covid-19, with testing showing that 95% of the feline coronavirus – which comes from the same Coronaviridae family – strain was reduced by 95% in two hours.
Our unique silver-based XtraProtect antimicrobial coating prevents the spread and growth of 99.9% of bacteria, and comes with scratch-resistant and life extension features. Find out more about XtraProtect here.
