Pot Noodle’s New Recyclable Packaging Surprises Consumers
Pot Noodle’s new design marks the biggest change to its packaging since the launch of the brand over 40 years ago.
In a surprise announcement, the brand is switching to a new 90% paper pot design, created from FSC-certified paper, as part of a new trial with Tesco.
A single layer of ultra-thin plastic film will provide barrier protection between the contents and the paper packaging, but parent company Unilever assured consumers that this would not affect recyclability.
Andre Burger, General Manager Foods (Nutrition) at Unilever UK & Ireland, said: “Pot Noodle has been a much-loved British brand for over 40 years, and while our great taste will never change, we’re always challenging ways to make our products and packaging better.
“From material development and testing through to new manufacturing processes and capabilities, big packaging innovations require the investment of time and expertise across many teams and partners.”
Courtney Pallet, packaging campaign manager at Tesco, added “We’re excited to work with Unilever to exclusively trial Pot Noodle’s new sustainably sourced, FSC-certified paper packaging and to continue to work together to help protect our planet.”
