Print Industry Prepares for End of Furlough

As the furlough scheme comes to an end, the print industry is preparing its next moves.

Thousands of workers in the print industry remain furloughed, with the industry as a whole claiming approximately £36m in taxpayer support through the months of May and June.

The government’s latest available statistics show that at the end of June, there were still more than 4000 print industry employers using the scheme, with 20,400 staff still furloughed.

The BPIF’s most recent Printing Outlook survey found that widespread redundancies are not expected as a result of the end of the scheme.

“Whilst many redundancy decisions have already been made (and actioned), some have been delayed, and potentially avoided, as companies kept one eye on the job retention scheme and the other on the pace of economic recovery,” states the report.

The furlough scheme is expected to close at the end of September.
